Heli-Expo 2018 Highlights
HAI Heli-Expo 2018 took place in Las Vegas in the end of February. Worldwide helicopter technology manufacturers presented their most popular models and demonstrated newly-designed products there. About 700 companies participated in the show and over 60 various helicopter modifications were displayed.
Robinson Helicopter Company represented R44 Raven II, R44 Cadet and R66 at its booth. R66 was colored in limited edition paint scheme and was equipped with heated-up seats. Garmin G500H TXi and Genesys HeliSAS were installed on R44 Raven II and R66. On a static display Robinson Helicopter demonstrated cargo hook for R66 and wire strike system.
The brightest innovation at the show was H160 manufactured by Airbus Helicopters, it will be put into operation in 2019. H160 is equipped with Helionix avionics, full composite fuselage, interior with flat floor, large windows and baggage compartment for 300 kg of cargo. Its interior can be configured for four or eight passengers (VIP-version) or for twelve passengers in other versions. H160 also includes many new technologies such as Blue Edge blades in five-bladed main rotor. They low noise and make the flight more smooth.
Thereafter Airbus Helicopters represented City Airbus model – it is unmanned air-taxi with electric engine, and a range of serialized helicopters H125, H135 and H145.
Bell demonstrated brand new helicopter Bell 505, series-produced Bell 407 and promising Bell 525. Bell 505 model was presented with accessories like towbar and emergency float system from DART Aerospace.
Leonardo Helicopters presented helicopters AW109 Trekker in multi-purpose configuration, AW139 in offshore configuration and AW169 in VIP-version. Leonardo Company received orders for 26 new helicopters.
Garmin represented new Flight Control System GFC 600H. Its purpose is to simplify pilot’s work and it can operate as separately so in conjunction with G500H and G500H TXi. Certification of this new Flight Control System is scheduled by the end of this year. At first it will be installed on helicopters Airbus AS350 B2/B3.
Safran Helicopter Engines announced about its plans to offer for supply new hybrid power plant Aneto for helicopters by 2025. In addition to traditional turbine component new engine will be equipped with electric motor.
